Guide

What is a modular UPS?

A modular UPS is an online double-conversion UPS made of identical power modules working in parallel inside one cabinet. If one module fails, the others keep carrying the load.

You start with the modules you need today and add more as the load grows. Hot-swap modules mean maintenance without interrupting critical loads.

  • Hot-swappable modules, no-break service
  • High availability with N+X redundancy
  • Pay-as-you-grow capacity
  • Smart sleep for high efficiency at low load

Selection

How to choose a modular UPS

Define today’s load (kW) and your 3–5 year growth. Size the cabinet for growth and the modules for today’s load, adding at least one spare module (N+1).

Phase configuration, backup time, floor space and parallel needs decide the model. Our engineers size it for you with a site survey.

Example: 80 kW IT load, N+1
  1. Today’s load80 kW
  2. Module rating25 kW
  3. Modules needed (N)4 modules
  4. Redundant module (+1)1 module
  5. Suggested setup150 kVA cabinet with 5 x 25 kW modules

FAQ

Modular UPS FAQ

Modular vs monoblock UPS?

A monoblock UPS is one power unit; a modular UPS splits power across parallel modules that can be hot-swapped while the others carry the load.

What does N+1 mean?

One extra module beyond what the load requires, so full capacity remains if a module fails.

Can capacity be added later?

Yes — add power modules to empty slots, and many series can be paralleled for more.

What is hot-swap?

Removing and inserting a power module without shutting down the UPS or dropping the load.

Which batteries can be used?

Depending on the series, sealed VRLA and lithium-ion batteries; the battery bank is sized to the required runtime.

What affects the price?

Cabinet size, module count, battery bank, redundancy and installation scope.
